Emergence Available On Unreal
First, a hot-off-the-press announcement: we’re proud to announce that Emergence is now available on the Unreal Marketplace - and we’ve already had thousands of downloads.
This makes Emergence even more accessible and easy-to-use for Unreal developers and provides us ‘native’ access to developers via the Unreal market.
This announcement fits with our theme for the first quarter of 2023: Execution.
And part of execution is creating a continuous feedback loop with the community of developers who are creating the experiences today that will lead to the Open Metaverse tomorrow.
Ramping Up Engagement
And so we’ve ramped up our efforts to engage with and listen to our users:
Alastair Band has joined our team in the community role, and will actively work to support, educate and engage with developers
We have invited community members to help us test the first version of our Unity SDK. (If you’re still interested, drop a line to alastair@crucible.network )
We have increased the temp of Town Halls. Our recent event started to map out the road map for the Emergence SDK and share our strategy and goals for 2023 with the community.
You can check out the entire Town Hall on YouTube.
In the background, outreach and feedback is happening through discussions with future partners. We look forward to sharing the results of this in the coming weeks.
All of this has helped us to refine a road map that will keep us focused and results-driven in 2023, allowing us to continually build and improve upon the tools that help make web3 simple for developers, with deep feature sets that allow for innovative Open Metaverse, world and game experiences.
Emergence Web Site
We’re pleased to announce that we’ve launched a devoted website for Emergence.
We realized that we needed a clean/simple way for developers to understand what the Emergence SDK offers. The site is just a start. Over time we will expand it as we add Emergence features, tutorials, demos and other content.
Our goal is to make web3 easy for game developers. The Emergence site is part of that commitment, by making information easy and clear for those who might be new to our work.
Unreal SDK: Version 0.3
In January we launched version 0.3 of our Unreal SDK. Read the full release notes here.
Of particular note:
Blockchains, Contracts and Deployed Contracts are now treated as game assets. This makes web3 development more intuitive and aligned to current workflows.
Added method GetDynamicMetadata. This is part of a larger effort to turn dynamic metadata into a powerful tool for in-game innovation and interoperability.
WriteMethod now can wait for a given number of confirmations before returning, allowing developers to know that the blockchain agrees that the transaction has taken place before continuing.
Contract Method graph pin will now show all methods on a ReadMethod or WriteMethod. No more need to look-up contract methods - simply click the pop-up menu and the available functions are listed and ready to go.
This last feature is another demonstration of our commitment to making #web3 easy for developers. Even for those with a lot of experience reading and writing to contracts will find the ability to access a drop-down list of contract methods a major time-saver:
Behind the scenes, we also spent time preparing for the recent Unreal Marketplace launch. This included creating wallet connection layers that don’t rely on bundling third-party services. We have shifted our EVM Server to be Cloud Based. Allowing us to package our Emergence SDK to work cross-platform and by creating clean connectivity layers, we’re ensuring that we can scale Emergence for future development, can comply with the terms of the Unreal market, and resist any code obfuscation through bundled third-party libraries.
Unity SDK
On a parallel path, our Unity SDK has almost achieved parity with Unreal and will soon be ready for release. This has been a massive undertaking, not just because it’s a different game engine, but because we want to ensure we can support concurrent feature releases going forward.
Town Halls
We will be holding monthly developer-focused Town Halls on our Discord server. The first two have given us the kind of engagement we love with comments, ideas and use cases that had a direct impact on development.
Make sure you mark your calendar when we announce the next event. And if you have a topic, question or request, drop a note on our Discord for Alastair (Discord ID: BeardOnTheBlock#8835)!
Emergence & Web3 “Bootcamp”
Finally, you’ll notice on our new Emergence website that we are now offering a 3 hour ‘bootcamp’ for game developers or studios who want a quick immersion in web3, the Open Metaverse, and Emergence.
During three sessions, you will:
Learn about the Open Metaverse and web3 and how it can accelerate your business and game development
Get a deep dive into Emergence and the tools it offers
Have a virtual whiteboard session, exploring your own use cases and how you can create innovative experiences for players
Participate in a ‘live coding’ session where we demonstrate how to implement one or more of your ideas
To participate, please apply here.
Until next time…see you at our Town Hall, on our Discord server, or in the Metaverse!
