Web3 is being invented by a whole generation right now.
It holds so much more promise then just pure speculation. In times like these it is important to remember this.
Zoom into today, an ecosystem of people selling billions of dollars of digital assets and building expectation hinged to a future promise of utility. Most of these promises imply that utility will come through gaming - but these projects haven’t gotten to the stage where they realize how complex and challenging that is. Those who know how to build fun, engaging games haven’t quite acclimated to this new technology yet.
Zoom out to where we really are, which is on the threshold of that shift into utility and usefulness. We can only squeeze so much out of PFPs.
Adoption for web3 will come largely through what feels like gaming, this is where digital identity and digital property is commonplace — but until recently the code has not existed to simplify a way to make web3 game ready.
The Open Metaverse is the internet built by game developers armed with web3, and I’ve made a very specific bet that we are beginning to execute on:
Game engines are where the power and beauty of game development comes from, but the web makes ownership and distribution more accessible and composable.
Emergence is being developed as the protocol to define the bridge between game engines and the web.
I’ve been working quietly and diligently with my team on our first blueprint of the Open Metaverse — Emergence SDKs on Unreal and Unity.
